Rules: June

want to make all the Zone events better. Devices may be used to
measure yardage only. If anyone reports other usage of these
devices, the player using the device incorrectly will be
disqualified. Zone Rules Committee will be available to hold
seminars for clubs as required.
Handicap/Course Rating:
Jo-Anne reminded all players that the handicap system is there
to enable all players to play at an equal level. "T" scores that
must be entered are: Qualifying Rounds for Pro Lady, CTC, and
Four Ball. Regular play for Dorothy Olive Franklin, Two Ball,
Pro Lady,, Beat the Champ, your own Club Championship and all
Zone Events. Do not enter Match games as "T" scores. For
handicap purposes Zone 4 ball scores must be entered with the
most likely score being entered if the ball is picked up. If
your club has changed anything on your course, such as yardage,
water hazards, bunkers etc please contact Jo-Anne to have your
course rating checked.
Teams & Tournaments:
Shirl reported that we have updated forms
this year and on-line registration is now available. Teams and
Tournaments ask that all the captains support the zone events.
Shirl also asked that for the CTC Tournament that one cheque be
sent from each club for the total of the entrants.

currently alternating Championships between north and south
locations, with the Zone 5 & 6 event this year being held in

The meeting was called to order by Chair Virginia Porter at
10:30am.
Executive Present:
Chair Virginia Porter Teams & Tournaments Shirl Ketch
Vice Chair Ann LaJoie Rules Assistant June Linklater
Treasurer Diane Richards T & T Assistant Billie Chang
Secretary Edith Skiber BCGA Director & Jr. Asst. Dee Horie
Handicap/Course Rater Jo-Anne Vail
Absent: Jr Girls - Christina Spence-Proteau.
Role call was taken with a total of 19 clubs present,
representing a quarum.
Moved by Edith Skiber, seconded by Cheri Holder that the
minutes of the 2009 AGM be adopted as circulated. Carried.
Errors or omissions - None forthcoming.
Business arising from the minutes - None forthcoming.
REPORTS FROM THE CHAIRS:
TREASURER: Diane Richards tabled a report from outgoing
treasurer Rosemary Heath on the finances ending Sept 30th, 2010
reporting a closing balance of $6,914.86. Copies of the
financial statements where circulated on the tables.
Moved by Sue Wilmer, seconded by Betty Lund that the report
be adopted. Carried.
CHAIR REPORT:
Virginian thanked the executive for assisting her this summer
as she copped with her surgery. She requested that all clubs
select a member to be in charge of all Zone Tournaments. This is
necessary to improve the communication between the clubs and
their members regarding these events.
Virginia advised of the upcoming Provincial Amateur/Mid
Amateur being held in Port Alberni this coming summer at which
she will be Tournament Chair. She requests that everyone do
their best to fill the field. Everyone has a chance to win.
Virginia also advised that she is retiring after four years as
Captain, and thanked all the great people and good friends for
making her job very fulfilling.
RULES: June Linklater is the new Rules chair for the
Zone, and introduced Ishbel Mucklow as her assistant. They will
try to get local rules seminars at all the clubs this year.
Please contact June if you wish to have a seminar at your club.
HANDICAP AND COURSE RATING: Jo-Anne Vail reported that
the closing date for entering scores in our zone is November
15th. However, if conditions at your course become such that
it may be unreasonable to post scores made before the inactive
season takes effect, your club may close their book sooner than
November 15th. It is up to the committee in charge to make
the determination. There have been problems with the entering of
scores and it is hoped that the Handicap Chairs at Club level
will follow up on this.
This year, all the ratings were done with the men and it is
felt that this makes both the men and ladies ratings more
accurate. If your club has changed anything on your course such
as yardage, water hazards, bunkers etc, you must contact the
Zone Course Rater and make them aware.
TEAMS AND TOURNAMENTS: Shirl Ketch reported that there
was a better turnout this year for most of the Zone Tournaments.
However, the Amateur Senior had lower numbers than we had hoped.
Also concerns about the attendance at the Net Tournament which
is designed for the higher handicap golfers. Shirl also reported
that Teams and Tournaments ended the year with a balance of
$267.42 after starting the year with a balance of $1,056.83.
Showing a net loss of $789.41for the year.
Questions/Discussion:
- Is there a way to make the Net Tournament sound more
exciting? There was no response, but it is a point to
consider.
- It appears that the events that we have qualifiers for
are better attended, should we consider this for all events?
This will be an ongoing discussion by the executive.
- There was a suggestion that we should consider
standardizing the distances for the events. This was
discussed and will be considered by the committee.
- If we had a qualifier for all events, there may be some
people who may wish to enter, but the club quota has already
been met.
JUNIOR CHAIR: Christina is unable to attend meetings
during the week, due to work commitments, however, she has
prepared her report to be presented by her assistant, Dee Horie.
From Zone 6, we had the Centennial Cup winner, Michelle
McCann of Glacier Greens, and the overall Centennial Cup winner
(based on differential points) was Shirin Anjarwalla of Nanaimo.
Other notable winners were:
Monica Huang (Pheasant Glen) BC Women’s Amateur 17th place
tie.
Michelle McCann (Glacier Greens) BC Jr Girls 22nd place tie.
Monica Huang (Pheasant Glen) BC Jr. Grils 27th place tie
Emily Adams (Mt. Brenton) BC Juvenile 24th
Monica Huang (Pheasant Glen) RCGA Canadian Amateur 71st place
tie
Monica Huang ( " " ) RCGA Canadian Jr. Girls 28th place tie
Clinics were held at Pheasant Glen on July 10th & 17th. The
clinics target girls 6 - 10yrs. In 2009, 41 particpated and this
year we only had 7 attend. The Alberni clinic was cancelled, but
should have drawn a good number of participants. Christine has
requested that the BCGA save the unused funding for next year.
The junior Ryder cup was held on Thanksgiving weekend with
Shirin Anjarwalla, Emma Rigsby and Emily Adams participating for
Zone 6, Unfortunately, the zone 6 boys and girls came up one
point short. Christine thanks all those who donated at the Zone
Am/Sr. to help offset travel expenses for the junior girls.
"Beat the Champ" brought in $300.00 and the winners were:
Kathy White (Alberni), Diane Johnson (Eaglecrest), Karen
Salminen (Storey Creek) Lynn Demings (March Meadows) and Shaune
Munro (Arrowsmith)
Update: Michelle McCann has graduated the Jr. ranks and
is now at Simon Fraser University and is part of their inaugural
women’s golf team this year. Shirin Anjarwalls is now ten and
continues to impress with her attitude on and off the course,
and her sheer raw talent. Juniors to watch!
BCGA ZONE 6 DIRECTOR:
Dee reported on her role as BCGA director and events that
come from Golf BC, please find the complete report as an
addendum to these minutes.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Web site update
Edith reported that the web site
next year will have interactive registration forms for the
zone events, and click on titles for the news items so we
don’t have to scroll down through everything there. The
interactive registration will not be able to accept funds as
this is a very costly process, however, it will enable
people to get their entries in sooner so T&T can get the
information ready for the events. Clubs may wish to have
their Chair collect the funds and send it all at once. If
anyone has any information or suggestions for the web site,
please let Edith know. (250-757-9930 or skiber@shaw.ca)
- Super Senior
: It was suggested that we have a super
senior event added to Champion of Champions (60+)
- Can we add a link for the rules for each event on the
Web page? We currently have the outline of the games on the
web page, but it would be hard to get the rules there as
they are usually only completed just prior to the event when
rules reviews the course for the event.
- The question was asked about the cost of Zone events -
this is determined by the bids that are received from the
clubs and many of our zone events are subsidized for the
players.
- Question regarding the payment of Zone events when being
played at your own club. The zone requires that all
participants pay the zone directly for all Zone events. In
the past, some clubs have made an agreement with their
players regarding the cost of green fees.
- Players Club: A motion was passed at the Executive
Meeting to reflect the position of the Zone to deal with
Players Club involvement. The Motion is : Moved by
Jo-Anne Vail, seconded by June Linklater that all players
club members must form their own club with an elected
committee in order to participate in Zone team events.
Carried.
The question was asked whether or not the players club have
to pay the $7.00 levy to the Zone?
The answer is yes, they will have to pay prior to May 31st
and provide a list of names.
A question was also asked about seasonal memberships, they
may play in zone events if they have paid the $7.00 levy.
