Virginia also introduced our new Vice-Chair, Rona Lawson from Sunnydale Golf Club.

REPORTS:

Treasurer: Rosemary distributed copies of the Balance sheet for last year, and the proposed budget for the upcoming year. The bank balance at the end of Feb. 2010 was $4,961.53. Rosemary advised that the letter regarding the levies was sent to all the clubs and Captains should ensure that it is taken care of by May 15th to make sure they are eligible to enter into zone events.

Rules: June linklater was present in place of Joan Brown and reminded the Captains that if they wish to hold a rules seminar at their course during the year, to contact Joan Brown and/or June Linklater.

Handicap and Course Rating: Jo-Anne Vail was unable to attend, but provided the following information. Jo-Anne reminded the attendees that the handicap system is set up to enable all players to compete on an equal level. Each club is responsible for ensuring that their members enter their adjusted scores including ‘T’ scores. Tee scores to be entered as such are: Qualifying rounds for Pro Lady, CTC and two ball. Day of play scores for Dorothy Olive Franklin, Two Ball, Pro Lady, Zone Net, Beat the Champ, your Club Championship and any games that are played for a trophy/placque that is passed from year to year. ‘T’ scores are NOT to be entered for Zone team play. ‘T’ scores are not removeable from the computer. With no way to have your new BC cards signed for handicap purposes, players should get a current print out of their factor.

If anyone has changes to their course such as yardage, added water bunkers etc, please contact Jo-Anne to have your course rated.

Teams & Tournaments: Shirl Ketch made another plea to the Captains to promote the zone events and get the members out. These are an excellent opportunity to play other courses at a reasonable cost and enjoy a meal with some new fellow golfers. Shirl requested that the club Captains’ get one individual from their course to look after only the zone events so there is more opportunity to promote them and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend. Shirl sent out a question to Clubs regarding the use of perpetual trophies, although the response was slight, the concensus is that we continue to use the perpetual trophies.

Junior Girls: Christina was unable to attend due to work committments, and her report was presented by Dee Horie, assistant Jr. Girls chair. Christine submitted a budget for her expenses for the upcoming year. She is proposing to participate in the three Centenial Cups to be held on the Island, and the BC Jr will be held in Victoria at Gorge Vale which will assist in cost reductions for this year. Christine has some goodies left from last year to use as prizes and if anyone has anything to contribute, it will be gratefully received. Christine had concerns about the funding forl the summer games, but that has been addressed by the executive and funds will be made available. Christina expects to hold three introductory clinics this year at Pheasant Glen in July (dates to be confirmed) also hopes to have a summer wrap-up clinic at Alberni at the end of August.

Christine also advised that she has information for Juniors regarding college golf to pass on. She also has the Beat the Champ pins. Please contact her. Christine noted that she is enjoying her work with the Juniors and hopes to continue into the future.

BCGA Director: Dee Horie reported from the BCGA Board Mtg of March 27th, 2010. The summer games will be held this year on the mainland. The qualifier for Zone 6 will be held at Pheasant Glen on June 12th & 13th. The $250.00 cost will be payed for each of our two representatives by the Zone. The school program ends in April 2010, with our goal of 25,000 kids introduced to golf being a success. Scotland has introduced 140,000 students to their golf program. The membership was down 63 last year and it is expected that we will see a further decline in membership this year. Rosemary has all the pins for the clubs as ordered. At this time, it appears there is only one person who fits the criteria. The entry fee is a cost of $250.00, which includes the golf, travel and accommodation.

The first $100.00 will sent to the Junior Girls chair for general funds, and the balance will be used toward the costs of sending junior girls to the summer games. (we are entitled to two every two years) The balance of the donations will be put in a reserve fund to pay the cost of sending our juniors to the Summer Games. For this year, and in the future, the zone will pick up the costs up to $250.00 per player for a maximum of two players. Carried.
